The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum is open from 10am – 4pm Tuesday – Saturday, and 12pm – 4pm on Sundays, we will continue to open on back holiday Mondays. During School Holidays, we may add early evening sessions, please see 'Book Tickets' for times.
Tickets are available for 15-minute slots throughout the day, however don’t feel rushed to leave when you visit. You're welcome to stay as long as you wish.
If you would like to see the rest of the museum, and are booking a slot later in the day, please make sure to arrive early and give yourself time to look around before visiting Dippy.
Dippy is located in the covered court at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum – that’s the area at the front of the building, accessible via the entrance from University Square, nearest Coventry Cathedral.
You can find us at:

Booking in advance to see Dippy is highly recommended, especially during School Holidays and weekends. Some walk-up tickets are available, but priority entry will be given to those who have booked in advance, so those without a ticket may have to queue.
If you can no longer attend the slot you have booked and wish to reschedule your visit, simply follow the link in your email confirmation and you can change the date yourself.
If you are planning a school trip or a visit for more than 10 people, please contact our Visitor Experience team by emailing ctm.info@cvlife.co.uk. We recommend you allow a double-slot of 30 minutes to explore the space with your class.
Our workshops for schools are highly interactive and inspire unique learning experiences. We use museum objects to reveal history and through the experiences pupils will encounter with our natural history collection, they will build up a deeper understanding of pre-historic life through cross-curricular investigation.
To find out more and to book our schools workshops, visit the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum website
In addition to our five permanent galleries – the History Gallery, Discover Godiva, Peace and Reconciliation and two art galleries – we will also have temporary exhibitions.
Many of these will take place during the school holidays. Please check the Herbert website or sign up to our newsletter for updates.
No – both the permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions at Herbert Art Gallery & Museum are free to visit on a drop-in basis, with no advance booking required. Some of our special events and activities for families are ticketed. You can find out more about upcoming events on the Herbert website.

Yes – visitors can amend their booking time and date, as well as cancel their slot if necessary. To do so, please contact dippyincoventry@cvlife.co.uk, and provide the details of the booking you wish to amend.
Unfortunately, you cannot add additional tickets to a pre-booked slot. However, additional tickets for the same slot will be available to purchase at https://dippyincoventry.co.uk. Alternatively, walk in tickets are available on the day, however, are subject to availability.
The Herbert does not provide physical tickets for Dippy – instead, all e-tickets are sent via a confirmation email. This helps to limit wastage and reduce our carbon footprint.
